Financial Help

If you or someone you know is looking for help with food, homeless shelter, emergency, health care, medical insurance, or other financial assistance in the United States, the following information and resources from our research may help. Click the links below to go to their websites to learn the detail.

Food

The quickest way to get free food and meals in the U.S. is to visit your local food banks, food pantries, soup kitchens, or other food help. A food bank/pantry/soup kitchen is usually a non-profit organization which gives away free food or meals to any persons in need. Some offer fresh produce or free food delivery to your home.

FoodPantries.org is a good website to find one near you. Click your state at the bottom of their Home page and then click your city or town on the next page to see the listing. Go to the listed websites to read all the detailed information and their operating hours. FreeFood.org also has good resources.

Homeless Shelter

ShelterListings.org provides an excellent list of housing resources including homeless shelters, day shelters, transitional housing, low-cost housing, housing for Low Income, etc.

HomelessShelterDirectory.org has a directory listing homeless shelters, food banks/soup kitchens, rent assistance, affordable housing, and other free things such as free cellphone, clinics, dental care, Rx cards, coupons, etc.

There is a Find Shelter resource from HUD that can also be helpful.

For more general information on how to get help for homeless people, go to the websites of the National Alliance to End Homeless and National Coalition for the Homeless to learn more.

Various Assistance

For the many different kinds of assistance including food and homeless shelters in your local area, the best place to find the complete information is your County’s Department of Social or Human Services webpages.

Search for your County’s community services/resources listing to learn about access to these services. Resources may include help on emergency needs, crisis, food, shelter, housing, rent, mortgage, utilities, home repair, clothing, free transportation, legal help, state and federal programs with cash benefits, health care, medical insurance, children/youth/senior services, addiction recovery, counseling/mental health, disabilities, and employment.

Small or rural counties may have very limited listing of resources. If so, search your nearby city website to find better resources.

These community services are usually provided by local non-profits, churches, faith-based organizations, Salvation Army, Red Cross, government agencies, or other entities.

If you prefer to talk to a real person and local specialist, call 211 from a cell phone or landline to get resources and referrals in your local community. The phone number 211 is designated by FCC for obtaining information and referrals to social services and other assistance in the United States.

You may search here for your local 211 website with contact information and online resources. These local 211 websites usually have a comprehensive list of information about local services and programs.

FinancialHelpResources.com lists different types of financial assistance resources such as single mothers financial help, and help paying medical, rent, mortgage, and utility bills. Take a look at this website to access the services.

If you can’t find any resources or assistance using the above links, you may contact us. We will do our best to look for other resources to help you. This page will be updated if more resources are found to make it more useful to people looking for help.
